Beall has been a faculty member at Athens Technical College (ATC) since 2005. He currently teaches General Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and Instrumental Analysis at ATC. Previously Dr. Beall was a faculty member at a 2-year college in North Georgia where he taught classes ranging from Environmental Chemistry to Biochemistry. He graduated from Piedmont College in 1996 with a B.S. in Chemistry, and later received his PhD in Biochemistry from East Carolina University in 2002. His goal is to infuse the courses he teaches with environmental and biochemical projects that have relevant application for students seeking jobs or furthering their education in the biochemical discipline. ![]() Title: Instructor (ATC) Telephone: 706-355-5138 Email: aheltzel@athenstech.edu ![]() Title: Biotech Instructional Coordinator (ATC) Telephone: 706-583-2889 Email: alatimer@athenstech.edu Amanda Latimer was appointed Biotechnology Instructional Coordinator for Athens Technical College in 2007, taking on the responsibility of high school outreach and teacher training. She received her B.S. in Biology from Oglethorpe University in 1984 and earned her M.S. in Animal Reproductive Physiology from The University of Georgia. Ms. Latimer spent 12 years as a research coordinator for the UGA Department of Foods & Nutrition, where she studied the role of growth factors in obesity. She then worked as a research scientist for Avigenics before coming to Athens Technical College in 2006 as an adjunct Biology Instructor. Ms. Latimer enjoys the time she spends lecturing, attending career fairs, and educating students and teachers about biotechnology. ![]() Title: Instructor (ATC) Telephone: 706-355-5010 Email: mmouat@athenstech.edu Dr. Michael Mouat received his B.S. degrees in Biochemistry and Genetics, as well as his PhD in Biochemistry at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. Upon earning his degrees, Dr. Mouat stayed on to teach at the university for three years before accepting a position at the National University of Science and Technology in the Department of Applied Biology and Biochemistry in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. He spent 14 years in research positions at various universities throughout the United States and then at the biotechnology company, Avigenics. As a current faculty member at Athens Technical College, Dr. Mouat teaches Regulatory Compliance in Biomanufacturing; Quality Assurance and Validation for Biomanufacturing; Patents and Technology Transfer; Biology, and Chemistry. He is also the author of sixteen publications in scientific journals and has been a peer reviewer for eight journals. ![]() Title: Biotechnology Program Chair (ATC) Telephone: 706-355-5086 Email: jrapp@athenstech.edu Dr. Jeff Rapp is currently the Biotechnology Program Chair at Athens Technical College (ATC) and the Co-Chair of GBTI. He also teaches courses in Biology, Cell Biology and Immunology, and Industrial Cell Culture at ATC. Dr. Rapp graduated with a B.S. in Microbiology from The University of Notre Dame in 1986 and received his PhD in Biochemistry from Texas A&M in 1993. Prior to coming to ATC, Dr. Rapp worked at the CDC in Atlanta in the herpesvirus branch, spent several years as a researcher for the University of Georgia, and conducted experimental research for a biotechnology startup company. Dr. Rapp is the author of nine publications in scientific journals and 11 U.S. patents. |
