What sort of jobs will graduates do?
As a graduate of a GBTI Program at ATC or GTC, you will have the skill set to work in laboratories at research universities like the University of Georgia, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, many major research hospitals, and governmental laboratories. You may also find work at food production companies and bio-manufacturing facilities that produce pharmaceuticals and vaccines for both humans and animals. Designing new medications and medical devices, improving the environment, enhancing food yield and quality – these are samples of the work that biotechnologists do.
How is the job market in this field?
Good and getting better. Presently there are many biotechnology laboratory jobs in Georgia at research universities, research hospitals, private biotechnology companies, like Athens Research and Technology, Inc., and larger pharmaceutical companies and governmental labs such as the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). The biotechnology sector is a first-rate industry in terms of future growth and development, providing excellent earning potential. In less than five years, Georgia has risen from 12th place to 7th place nationally in the number of biotechnology companies. Biotechnology is the fastest growing business sector in America. In the midst of job loss in so many employment fields, biotechnology is a growing industry for the future.
